WHAT’S NEW FROM THE CUTTING EDGE FOR JULY 2021

THIS MONTHS FOCUS AREA:

1) NEW FOCUS MATERIAL – BUILDING A BRIDGE FROM MINOR PENTATONIC SCALES TO MODES

This month– What’s New from the Cutting Edge for July 2021!!! we will start building a bridge from our pentatonic scales to our minor modes. You will learn how to expanding your vocabulary and strengthen your ability to play lead guitar by adding two notes to your pentatonic scales! We’ll be exploring modes from within the comfort zone of the pentatonic scales. This learning system is great for students who have never understood modes or feel stuck and need a creative boost! By adding two simple notes to your five note pentatonic scale, new doors begin to open, that allow you to play with greater freedom. I call this approach, 5 + 2 = Freedom! This month we will start with the Aeolian mode and in August, we will add the Dorian mode. I have added a new section to the channel titled “ 5 + 2 = Freedom,” where you I will be adding new tab, rhythm tracks, and expanding the “Let’s Jam” series.

3) WEEKLY WORKOUT:

Beginner to Intermediate Student:

– Be sure to warm up with one of the three-finger exercises each day! Remember, take your time— it’s not a race! You will find these exercises in the section titled “Blues Guitar for Beginners,” lessons 3, 4, and 5.

– As you’re ready, begin practicing to rhythm tracks— this can help you move forward at a faster pace! Before playing to any “Jam Track,” practice muting all the strings and strumming your guitar to the song’s tempo. Make sure you feel the pulse of the track your playing! By doing this, you build a connection to your instrument and develop your feel! Feel is critical— if you don’t feel it, nobody will feel it!

– Make sure to practice your minor pentatonic in the key of E and A and learn the roadmap so you can use it with freedom!

Intermediate to Advanced Students:

– Learn the Aeolian Mode and play along with the new Jam Tracks as they are added throughout the month

– Continue working with the 50 Licks Squared series! Apply these concepts when developing your lead guitar vocabulary!

4) POST YOUR VIDEOS:

I’d love to see some video footage of you soloing over the rhythm track of your choice! IF anyone is brave enough to post yourself playing— that would be sweet! Don’t be shy!
